Where Vietnamese passport holders can travel visa-free
The Vietnamese passport gives visa-free access to a useful set of destinations, mostly in Southeast Asia. For everything else you will need a visa — but these countries are worth knowing about, because travel history strengthens later applications.
Visa-free for Vietnamese passports
- Southeast Asia: Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Brunei
- Other: a number of destinations in the Caribbean, South America and Africa allow visa-free or visa-on-arrival entry
Visa on arrival or e-visa
Several countries do not require a visa in advance but issue one at the border or online — among them the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal and a number of Middle Eastern and African states.
Why this matters for harder visas
A passport with stamps from Thailand, Singapore and Korea is materially easier to build a US or Schengen application around than a blank one. If you are planning a difficult visa in a year or two, travelling to the easy destinations first is a real strategy, not just a holiday.
