Five-year visa exemption certificate

For overseas Vietnamese and for foreign spouses and children of Vietnamese citizens. Each entry allows a stay of up to six months, with no visa required for five years.

Documents required

• Original passport of the foreign national
• Certified copy of the Vietnamese relative’s ID card
• Temporary residence declaration for the foreign national
• Sponsorship form NA9
• Four 4x6 cm photos
• Certified copy of the marriage certificate and birth certificate

Processing takes about one month. Renewal of an existing certificate requires the passport, a portrait photo, a birth certificate and proof of Vietnamese origin.

Three-year temporary residence card

For a child with one Vietnamese parent. Grants a stay of up to three years.

• Passport and Vietnamese visa or exemption certificate
• Mother’s ID card and forms CT07/CT08
• Temporary residence registration of the child
• Birth certificate — legalised if issued abroad
• Forms NA07 and NA08 signed by the mother

Visa run & border run

A same-day trip from Ho Chi Minh City to the Cambodian border and back, to obtain a fresh Vietnamese visa. Widely used by expats, teachers and long-term visitors.
